Saint Philip Benizi Catholic Church

3-manual Rodgers Trillium Model 957
6 ranks of pipes

St. Philip Benizi is a young parish, having been established in 1958. The parishioners first worshipped in their new building August 1959. Nearly forty years later to the date, an arson fire burned the church to the ground. Plans for a new building began immediately and it was dedicated on March 12, 2005.

The organ is a Rodgers 3-manual Trillium 957 combined with 6-ranks of windblown pipes. The Model 957 has 112 speaking stops representing 135 equivalent digital ranks. The A huge chamber for the speakers and digital equipment is located above and behind the choir with the pipes arranged in a handsome visual display in front of the chamber opening. The 6-rank pipe configuration contains 354 individual pipes, that play from the organ's Great Division. The pipe ranks are Principal 8', 4', 2', Gemshorn 8', Flute 8' and 4'. The pipes and related equipment were custom built to Robert Tall & Associates specifications. The Roland Digital Grand Piano Model 17M served as the interim instrument in the temporary facility while the new church was being built, and is often played together with the Rodgers Organ in the new sanctuary.

The Roland Digital Grand Piano and the Rodgers 957 pipe/digital organ play well together.

At the dedication ceremonies. From left to right: Joe Novoa, Catholic Diocese of Orange Director of Construction Management Services; Dr. Robert Tall. Trillium Masterpiece Series, Model 968 with custom specifications by Robert Tall

When Rodgers introduced the new Masterpiece Series instruments, built on Rodgers' Organ Architect design platform, Robert Tall saw the opportunity to create for his firm a full line of custom Signature Series specifications. This process began by designing a custom specification for his residence, based on a large 3-manual Model 968. After personally selecting samples from Rodgers extensive sample library, Dr. Tall created his own instrument of 204 digital equivalent ranks.

He lovingly calls his instrument, "Big Mama", because it is from this instrument the RTA Signature Series instruments have been "born." "Big Mama" has since had many babies and several clones!

Theodora Primes is a protégé of the legendary pianist Adolph Baller. A pianist of great facility, she has recently committed herself to serious studies of the organ, as well. She is currently organist at the United Armenian Congregational Church in Los Angeles and serves on the Glendale College adjunct music faculty.

Theo is a past president of UCLA community outreach program for the Performing arts and was honored by both the California State Senate and the City of Los Angeles for a series of solo piano recitals she gave benefiting shelters for the homeless.

The late Artie Shaw was a friend and wrote, "Her playing has immense power and depth, her musical sensibilities are profound, and she possesses a truly world class technical capability. I am positive that if you are fortunate enough to hear her, as I have many times now, you are in for a deeply moving experience."

We welcome such a major talent to the field of organ and thank her and her husband, Bob, for choosing Rodgers.

St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Laguna Beach was established in 1932. Demand for a larger space became increasingly necessary as the parish grew to a congregation of more than 2,000 members. After an extensive 2-year renovation project, Bishop of Orange, Tod D. Brown conducted the Rite of Dedication, officially blessing the church as a holy place of worship on July 1, 2005. The organ and choir are located in the rear of the sanctuary. Robert Tall & Associates, Inc. is pleased to have been chosen to install a 2-manual Rodgers Trillium Model 837 in a space that is so kind to sound.

Marjorie Ziprick Residence

Rodgers 3-manual, Model 905

Mrs. Marjorie Ziprick, well-known musician and teacher in the Loma Linda area recently traded her 47-year old Rodgers Model 32B for a new 3-manual Rodgers Model 905. At the age of 93, Mrs. Ziprick still teaches 30 students every week and practices both the organ and piano every day. Her former Rodgers is on display in the RTA showroom, every note of every stop still works and sounds beautifully. Mrs. Ziprick says the only service call she had on her former Rodgers was to change the light bulbs in the music desk.

Robert Tall & Associates congratulates Marjorie for her many years of service to her hundreds of students and the community. She is an inspiration to all of us. So is her 32B. Like her, it just keeps going! It is a real testimony to the stability of Rodgers products over the long haul.

15-rank Ruffatti Pipes

In 1966, the Los Angeles Presbytery opted to start a new South Orange County church and purchased 5 acres at the future intersection of Oso and Marguerite Parkways in Mission Viejo. Three years later in September 1969, groundbreaking ceremonies took place for the first building, which was to include a sanctuary, office, four classrooms and restrooms. Since that time, the church has grown steadily and subsequent construction has created many buildings over the 5 acres. As might be expected, the congregation outgrew their sanctuary. On September 10, 2006, the new sanctuary was dedicated, with all state- of-the-art worship equipment and an organ. The Rodgers 2-manual Trillium 787 was moved into the new sanctuary and interfaced with 15-ranks of Ruffatti pipes, which were a gift from a private donor.

Custom 4-manual Rodgers Trillium Masterpiece 26-rank Austin Pipes

The new organ at The Church of Our Saviour in San Gabriel, California is one of the largest and most technologically advanced pipe/digital combination instruments in the world. The former organ was an all pipe instrument of 31 ranks built and installed in 1967 by the Austin Pipe Organ Company. In July 2005, the church contracted with RTA to rebuild their Austin organ, which was particularly in need of a new console. In turn, Robert Tall & Associates, Inc. contracted with Rosales Pipe Organ Builders, Los Angeles to work with the pipe portion of the new instrument and Rodgers Instruments LLC, Hillsboro, Oregon to build a new custom 4-manual console, which would not only drive the pipes, but would augment the pipe organ by the addition of some digital pipe samples. Twenty-six of the Austin pipe ranks (1,537 individual pipes) have been refurbished and reconfigured on all new chests and equipment to play in two unenclosed divisions, Great I, installed in the west chamber and the Positiv, installed in the east chamber. There are 202 digital ranks, which combined with the 26 windblown pipe ranks comprise an impressive instrument totaling 228 ranks!

Summerlin, Nevada

Evangelical Lutheran Church

3-manual Rodgers Trillium Masterpiece Model 908

Summerlin Evangelical Lutheran Church began in 1990 around the living room piano of Pastor Jerome and Carol McWaters and their three sons. A small group met for six months in the McWaters' home before moving to a temporary site rented to them by the Advent United Methodist Church. Land was purchased and the congregation constructed its first worship facility at 1911 Pueblo Vista Dr. in Summerlin in the fall of 1993. The congregation continues to grow steadily with a congregation of over 300 committed members.

The organ has seven divisions: Great, Swell, Choir, Solo (assignable), Pedal, Antiphonal and Trumpeteria. The Main Organ is installed in the front of the church near the altar and choir loft area. Unique to this installation is the Trumpeteria, which features The Festival Trumpet and the English Tuba, which have been mounted high in the rafters above the altar to cap off the total organ sound.

Mickey Noveck is a talented 17-year old student, who is serious about piano and organ studies. Becoming very proficient on the piano at his young age, he has recently become interested in the organ. He studies organ with Dr. Timothy Howard, Professor of Organ at University of California, Northridge. He has chosen a pre-owned Rodgers Model 220, which is a very complete instrument for beginning organ students. It has lighted drawknobs, divided expression, sub- and super-couplers and complete choruses for the performance of all organ literature.
